The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation was honored in Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Awards for 2024 as the Design Company of the Year and as an honoree for the Design of the Year.

The Innovation by Design Awards, which can be found in the Summer 2024 issue of Fast Company, honor the designers and businesses solving the most crucial problems of today and anticipating the pressing issues of tomorrow. The competition, now in its 13th year, features a range of blue-chip companies, emerging startups and promising young talent, according to a press release by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.

The foundation was recognized as the Design Company of the Year for its innovative partnerships that breathe new life into Wright’s iconic principles. Since 2016, the Foundation has collaborated with more than 50 design manufacturers, creating over a thousand new products, from prefab homes inspired by Wright’s Usonian designs to a line of sneakers by Kith and New Balance and the Steelcase Frank Lloyd Wright Racine Collection.

These efforts have nearly doubled the foundation’s royalty income while simultaneously introducing Wright’s visionary concepts to a younger and more diverse global audience, directly supporting the foundation’s mission, according to the release.

Additionally, the foundation was an honoree for the Design of the Year.

“This recognition is a testament to our commitment to innovation and the enduring legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright’s principles,” Stuart Graff, the president and CEO of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, said in the release.

The judges include renowned designers from a variety of disciplines, business leaders from some of the most innovative companies in the world and Fast Company’s writers and editors. Entries are judged on the key ingredients of innovation: functionality, originality, beauty, sustainability, user insight, cultural impact and business impact.
