A Día de Los Muertos celebration is coming to the West Valley’s Heritage Night Market.
The event to celebrate life and loved ones in a festive collaboration with E.L.L.A. Mujeres Mercado, a local nonprofit serving Latina-owned businesses and entrepreneurs, goes from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2.
The special night market takes place at the Heritage Night Market, 9600 W. Sportsman’s Park South, directly adjacent to the Great Lawn at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.
With free admission, the event will feature more than 100 local vendors offering products, services, food and fun for the whole family. The market will be fully decorated to capture tradition and culture, and will include musical entertainment from a Mariachi band and professional DJ.
There will be education and crafts artist, author and designer Kathy Cano-Murillo, also known as the Crafty Chica. Other activities include traditional skull face-painting, symbolizing the eternal cycle of life.
A 360-degree community altar, or ofrenda, will feature significant elements of altars including marigold flowers, arches, salt, water, and sweet bread treats. Residents can bring photos or personal items of their loved ones to be on display.
The Heritage Night Market takes place every first and third Thursday of the month through the spring in Glendale.
