Three styles from Greenwood Brewing, a woman-led brewery in downtown Phoenix, earned accolades at the 2nd Annual Arizona Craft Beer Awards.
The awards ceremony, celebrating excellence in the craft beer industry, took place in Tempe this month and marked the pinnacle of competition for local brewers.
Greenwood, located at 922 N. 5th St., earned high marks with a silver for its Greenwood Light Lager, and two bronzes for Warrior Hazy IPA and Herstory Pale Ale. The Warrior Hazy IPA received the highest number of entries in the Arizona Craft Beer Awards.
"We are deeply honored by the recognition of our craft on this grand stage," Megan Greenwood, Greenwood Brewing owner, shared in a press release.
This year’s Arizona Craft Beer Awards featured 53 breweries, collectively submitting 194 beers for competition. A panel of 65 judges, including professional brewers, home brewers, cicerone, and industry experts, gathered to sample and evaluate the submissions.
All beers were assessed in accordance with the guidelines established by the Great American Beer Festival.
Greenwood started her brewing journey with a home-brew kit she received in 2014. Over time, her hobby transformed into a business, and she built a microbrewery in her garage with eight beers on tap.
She started renting space from a local brewery to launch her flagship beers while building Greenwood Brewery. Her self-funded Downtown Phoenix Microbrewery and Beer Garden finally opened in July 2020, and her beer is now available in more than 200 restaurants, grocery stores, and retail stores throughout Arizona.
The brewery has produced almost 30 beer styles on its 10-barrel Deutsche Beverage Technology brewhouse, with the Rosemary IPA being the bestseller.
