Windsor: Vance is young, ambitious and scary

Posted

Never has the vice presidential seat been such a topic in a presidential election. Early in this election season, the DNC took a lot of flack for having such an “elderly” candidate.

That flack came from the GOP and the Democratic base. After the Trump/Biden debate, it was obvious Mr. Biden was a question mark. Then, Biden stepped aside. The GOP and Trump were joyous, until they realized that VP Kamala Harris was a bigger problem than they imagined, and they cried “foul.”

We again have Trump running and he’s only three years younger than Biden. Observing Trump over the last year or so, it is obvious that he’s about on par, or below Biden when it comes to mental health. What are the odds Trump will be able to maintain any degree of mental acuity when dealing with grueling presidential duties? What happens should Trump become overwhelmed and not able to perform? Even now,  it’s touch and go.

Well, then we will have JD Vance, Trump's VP choice. A virtual unknown, a junior senator from Ohio. Vance is young and ambitious, but not exactly Mr. personality.

Understandably, he’s a product of an unbelievably dysfunctional family. Read his novel, “Hillbilly Elegy.” There is only the slightest possibility that Vance could have escaped his wretched upbringing without major psychological scaring. He escaped physically, a Yale Law grad, etc. However, it doesn’t appear the law was his pursuit. He went for the money and became a venture capitalist.

Vance has not matched Trump in lying, but his perpetuation of Trump’s lies is amazing, and embarrassing. He has adapted well in that he has no problem with Trump’s proclivity to prevarication. So far, he has made the GOP and Trump proud. It’s scary.
