Benning: Support Proposition 479

Posted

As a Queen Creek Town council member, I am proud to support Maricopa County’s Proposition 479. This vital measure ensures that our region can continue to build out our transportation network in Maricopa County.

Proposition 479 is not a tax increase but rather the continuation of the existing half-cent  sales tax known as Proposition 400 which was initially approved by the voters in 1985 and reapproved in 2004.

Proposition 479 is a fiscally responsible plan that allocates resources where they are most needed. The ballot measure prioritizes critical transportation infrastructure projects, such as new freeways, arterial roadway maintenance, intersection improvements, and transit improvements. This tax will not be used for light rail!

It is imperative we pass this proposition in order to reduce congestion and help prevent collisions, ensuring people reach their destinations safely.

Proposition 479 also promotes economic development by creating a favorable environment for businesses to thrive, leading to job creation and a stronger local economy.

This measure is not just about meeting our current needs but also about planning for a prosperous future. Proposition 479 will keep our regional economy moving.

For the Town of Queen Creek, this proposition is imperative as the current freeway system doesn’t reach all the way to our community.

Proposition 479 includes funding to build the State Route 24 all the way to the Central Arizona Project canal, including construction of the grade separated intersection of SR24 and Ironwood Drive. These improvements will go a long way toward improving the flow of people, goods and services to Queen Creek and our neighbors to the south and east.

I urge you to join me in voting YES on Proposition 479 on your ballot Nov. 5. Together, we can build a safer, stronger, and more vibrant region for generations to come.
