Classes were canceled at Gilbert's Highland High School on Wednesday due to electrical issues from Salt River Project, Gilbert Public Schools officials said.
Highland High experienced sporadic power outages in various buildings on campus Tuesday night due to the issues. SRP, along with GPS Operations, were on site immediately, but were not been able to resolve the issues in a couple of buildings as of Wednesday morning, including the main academic building, Hawk Hall.
That led to the decision to cancel school.
As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, the district was still waiting word from SRP on a resolution.
"Please be assured the safety of our students and staff is a top priority," the district stated in its cancelation post. "SRP and our operations team and technicians are continuing to work to ensure our campus will be ready for our students and staff (Thursday) morning."
