Ballet Arizona is hosting open auditions for its annual “The Nutcracker” production at Symphony Hall with the Phoenix Symphony.
Youth roles for are available to children between the ages of 9-18. Students must be 9 by Dec. 1 or be in The School of Ballet Arizona’s Level 2 to audition.
Auditions take place at Ballet Arizona Studios located at 2835 E. Washington St., in Phoenix. Those selected will perform on stage with Ballet Arizona's professional company dancers.
Students auditioning for “The Nutcracker” must fill out the registration form prior to arrival and turn it in on the day of the audition.
Registration begins one hour prior to scheduled audition time, and students should finish registration 30 minutes prior to their audition time. Registration fee is $15 for non-SBAZ students and free for SBAZ and ASA students.
Audition times:
9:30–10 a.m.: All boys (ages 9-18, or SBAZ Level 2 and up)
10–10:45 a.m.: SBAZ Level 2-4/ASA Grade 5 and 6
10:45–11:30 a.m.: SBAZ Level 5-6/ASA Grade 7 and 8
11:30 a.m.-noon: SBAZ Level PPP & up/ASA High School
All auditioning must attend the audition for their age group and should be available to stay additional time on the day of the auditions.
Dancers should come dressed in classical ballet attire for the audition. For girls, tights, leotard, and ballet shoes (no skirts), hair in a bun. No dangling jewelry. For boys, trim fitted T-shirt or leotard, tights or bicycle shorts, ballet shoes, jazz shoes or socks.
“The Nutcracker” rehearsals for the youth cast are broken down by character on Saturdays starting Sept. 16 and run through Dec. 2, with the exception of Oct. 14, Nov. 18 and 25.
Tech rehearsals are Wednesday, Dec. 6; Thursday, Dec. 7; and Friday, Dec. 8.
